Refurbished vs used iPhone: a UK buying checklist
The useful comparison is between the two actual offers. A privately sold used iPhone and a refurbished phone from a business can differ in the checks, paperwork and routes for resolving a problem.

Identify who sells the phone
Read the seller details and the terms attached to the transaction. Do not assume the protections described for a business purchase apply in the same way to a private sale. Ask for proof of ownership and the exact model and capacity.
Ask for condition evidence
Check activation status, battery information, visible damage and the functions you can test. A listing's photographs and descriptions should match the actual phone. A low price alone does not resolve missing information.
Read returns and warranty terms
On Back Market UK, read the commercial promises attached to the offer. GOV.UK explains consumer rights and the distinction between rights and a warranty. Keep the invoice, seller terms and any correspondence.
Compare the whole cost
- The final price and delivery.
- Capacity and cosmetic condition.
- Battery option and likely accessory needs.
- How a fault or return would be handled by the actual seller.
Indicative prices, not a guarantee
