Refurbished iPhone battery: what to know before buying
The battery is the part of a refurbished iPhone that ages whether or not the phone is used. It is also the one specification worth checking before the price.

What the percentage means
Battery health is the share of the original capacity the cell still holds. At 85 %, a phone that ran a full day when new runs roughly a fifth less. Below 80 %, iOS starts flagging the battery as needing service, which is why that number appears in so many refurbishing commitments.
What a refurbisher usually commits to
- A minimum health level at delivery, commonly stated on the listing or in the marketplace's standards.
- Replacement of cells below that level before the phone is sold.
- A warranty that may or may not cover the battery afterwards — worth checking, because it is often the exclusion.
How to factor it into the price
A replacement costs a fixed amount regardless of what you paid for the phone. On an inexpensive older model, that cost can represent a substantial share of the purchase — which is precisely when a guaranteed battery level is worth paying a little more for.
Read it as part of the price rather than as a specification. Two offers thirty dollars apart are not really thirty dollars apart if one guarantees a higher battery level and the other does not mention it.
